what is software outsourcing?

Outsourcing is a modern word which is nowadays replacing the old word ’subcontracting”. Which means that certain work is given to another company to complete (3rd party). If I am making a program which needs a special database I can outsource the making of this database to another company. This normally happens if there isn’t sufficient resources or experience to complete the work alone.

Another way to look at it is: I have an idea for a program and ask a company to make the program.
